About this drink

The Gloria is a relative of the Negroni that swaps sweet vermouth for dry and adds a touch of orange liqueur for extra depth. It is meant as an aperitif that leans towards the clear and botanical rather than the heavy and sweet. The name evokes a bygone era of elegant cocktail bars, where precision and stirring mattered as much as the ingredients themselves.

Questions and answers

What kind of drink is a Gloria?

A stirred cocktail related to the Negroni, in which dry vermouth and orange liqueur replace the sweet vermouth, making it drier and more citrus-led than the classic.

Does the orange liqueur need to be an expensive one?

Not at all. You lose a little of the polished sweetness of a Cointreau-quality liqueur, but the drink's basic character stays intact.

Which of these do you have?

Ticked bottles go into My bar on this device, and the matcher uses them.
