About this drink
Ted Kilgore created the drink in 2011 for a fellow bartender visiting his bar, hence the name Industry Sour. The idea was simple: bring some of his own favourite ingredients together in one glass, even though Fernet-Branca and green Chartreuse are each notoriously demanding to work with. The result has become something of a cult drink among bartenders, who love its raw, herbal intensity.
Questions and answers
Who is the Industry Sour really made for?
The name comes from bartenders themselves: an 'industry drink' enjoyed after a shift, built on two powerful, bitter spirits that are not for the faint-hearted.
How bitter is the Industry Sour?
Quite bitter. Fernet and green Chartreuse are both strong, herbal spirits, and even with lime and syrup to balance them, this is a drink for people who like bold flavours.
