About this drink
The Lumumba is named after Patrice Lumumba, Congo's first prime minister, although how the drink came by its name is unclear. It pairs the European love of hot chocolate with a generous measure of spirit, cognac or dark rum depending on who is pouring. It is served hot as often as cold and remains a fixture of ski huts and cafés in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
