About this drink
The Nascar Negroni is an American sideways look at the classic Italian Negroni, with gin swapped for bourbon or rye, a line that actually leads straight back to the Boulevardier of the 1920s. The name is an affectionate, slightly cheeky nod to American motorsport and the horsepower the whiskey brings. The result has the same bitter, sweet and herbal balance as the original, just on a warmer, spicier foundation.
Questions and answers
What is the difference between a Nascar Negroni and a Boulevardier?
Very little: both pair bourbon, Campari and sweet vermouth. The Nascar Negroni is a nickname that has grown up in newer bar culture, usually with a little more whiskey than the classic Boulevardier.
Rye or bourbon in a Nascar Negroni?
Rye gives a drier, spicier version, while bourbon keeps the drink rounder and sweeter. Both are good; it is a matter of taste.
