Tips & Notes

  • Use fresh passion fruit puree when possible for the most vibrant flavor - the difference in taste is remarkable compared to artificial alternatives.

  • Double straining is crucial for achieving the signature silky texture - never skip this step as passion fruit pulp and seeds will ruin the mouthfeel.

  • The Champagne should never be mixed into the cocktail but served separately - alternate sips between the martini and sparkling wine for the intended flavor experience.

  • Vanilla vodka is essential to the recipe's identity - substituting plain vodka will significantly diminish the cocktail's characteristic sweet aroma and flavor.

  • Ensure all ingredients are well-chilled before preparation, and shake with authority - this cocktail benefits from proper dilution and aeration.

While possible, vanilla vodka is essential to the authentic Porn Star Martini experience. If using regular vodka, add an extra 5ml of vanilla syrup to compensate for the lost vanilla character.

The Champagne acts as a palate cleanser, meant to be sipped alternately with the cocktail. This technique enhances the tropical flavors while providing effervescent contrast to the rich, smooth martini.

The passion fruit liqueur is crucial for flavor depth. If unavailable, increase the passion fruit puree to 60ml and add 5ml of simple syrup, though the result won’t be quite as complex.

A ripe passion fruit should feel heavy for its size and have a wrinkled skin. When cut, it should reveal aromatic pulp with a sweet-tart fragrance that complements the cocktail’s tropical character.

Cocktail Difficulty Levels

We’ve added a difficulty rating to every cocktail so you’ll know what to expect before you start mixing. It’s not about being “hard” or “easy” in the strict sense—it’s about how much preparation, skill, and hunting for ingredients you’ll need.

  • Beginner – Quick builds or simple shakes with common ingredients you’ll likely already have at home. Perfect for beginners or a casual evening.

  • Intermediate – A bit more technique (stirring, shaking, muddling, layering) and a few extra ingredients. You might need to buy one or two bottles or garnishes you don’t already stock.

  • Advanced – Multiple steps, specialty techniques (infusions, syrups, foams), or rare ingredients. These drinks take more effort and planning, but reward you with something truly impressive.

The rating is based on things like the number of ingredients, how rare they are, and the skills needed to bring the cocktail together.
