Tips & Notes

  • Shake hard and long enough to fully chill and emulsify the cream - this is crucial for achieving the signature smooth texture.

  • Use fresh, high-quality heavy cream for the best flavor and texture. Half-and-half can be substituted for a lighter version.

  • Always use green crème de menthe for the classic appearance, and white crème de cacao to maintain the clean green color.

  • Serve immediately after preparation to enjoy the drink at its creamiest and coldest state.

  • Adjust ratios to taste preference - if you prefer stronger mint, increase crème de menthe slightly, but be cautious as it can dominate.

Yes, you can substitute the heavy cream with coconut cream, cashew cream, or other non-dairy alternatives. The texture may be slightly different, but the flavor profile will remain delicious.

A Flying Grasshopper includes 30ml of vodka in addition to the standard ingredients, making it stronger and less sweet while maintaining the mint-chocolate flavor profile.

While white crème de cacao is traditional for maintaining the green color, dark crème de cacao can be used for a deeper chocolate flavor, though it will slightly muddy the vibrant green appearance.

Blend the liqueurs with 2-3 scoops of vanilla or mint-chocolate chip ice cream and a splash of milk in a blender until smooth. This creates a boozy milkshake version perfect for warm weather.

Cocktail Difficulty Levels

We’ve added a difficulty rating to every cocktail so you’ll know what to expect before you start mixing. It’s not about being “hard” or “easy” in the strict sense—it’s about how much preparation, skill, and hunting for ingredients you’ll need.

  • Beginner – Quick builds or simple shakes with common ingredients you’ll likely already have at home. Perfect for beginners or a casual evening.

  • Intermediate – A bit more technique (stirring, shaking, muddling, layering) and a few extra ingredients. You might need to buy one or two bottles or garnishes you don’t already stock.

  • Advanced – Multiple steps, specialty techniques (infusions, syrups, foams), or rare ingredients. These drinks take more effort and planning, but reward you with something truly impressive.

The rating is based on things like the number of ingredients, how rare they are, and the skills needed to bring the cocktail together.
