  • Apple brandy60 ml
  • Elderflower liqueure.g. St-Germain15 ml
  • Lemon juice, freshly squeezed7 ml
  • Tonic watertop up
  • Orange, to garnish (optional)1 twist

Method

  1. Fill a highball or Collins glass with ice and leave it to chill.
  2. Stir the Calvados, elderflower liqueur and fresh lemon juice with ice in a mixing glass or shaker.
  3. Strain the cold mixture into a glass over fresh ice cubes.
  4. Top up with tonic and stir briefly to keep the fizz.
  5. Twist a wide strip of orange peel over the drink to release its oils, and drop it in to garnish.

About this drink

Calvados is the heart of this Normandy-inspired drink, in which the apple's spiced sweetness is balanced by the floral scent of elderflower. Tonic adds a light fizz and a fresh, gently bitter finish that makes the drink perfect for a warm afternoon.
