About this drink

The Daiquiri comes from Cuba around 1900, named after a small mining town near Santiago de Cuba. The blended strawberry version became an American bar favourite in the 1970s, when frozen fruit drinks took off in tiki and beach bars. It is still a fine test of balance: too much syrup and the fruit drowns, too little and the lime takes over.

Questions and answers

Is a Strawberry Daiquiri the same as a classic Daiquiri?

No, it is really a different drink: the fruit brings sweetness in place of the classic's clean rum-and-lime profile, and it is blended rather than shaken, which gives a completely different texture.

Can I use frozen strawberries in a Strawberry Daiquiri?

Yes. Frozen strawberries actually give a better, thicker slushy texture than fresh, as you need less ice to reach the right chill and body.

Which of these do you have?

Ticked bottles go into My bar on this device, and the matcher uses them.
