Tips & Notes

  • Shake coconut milk vigorously before measuring to ensure fat is evenly distributed - separation will result in a thin, unbalanced drink.

  • Swizzle until the drink tastes just shy of "too strong" as it will continue diluting slightly as the crushed ice melts.

  • Fresh pineapple juice adds natural foam and brightness - if using store-bought, choose unsweetened and adjust orgeat by 2-3ml to taste.

  • The goal texture is very cold and lightly frothy, almost slushy rather than thin - proper swizzling technique is essential for this drink's success.

  • For consistent balance, maintain the 1:1:1 ratio of Chartreuse, pineapple, and coconut (45ml each) and treat orgeat and lime as fine-tuning elements.

Yes, you can use a bar spoon instead. The key is the rapid rotating motion between your palms while moving up and down to achieve proper chilling and the signature frothy texture.

Green Chartreuse is quite unique, but you could try Génépy or other herbal liqueurs, though the flavor will be significantly different. Yellow Chartreuse can work but will be less intense and sweeter.

For sweeter, increase orgeat to 12-15ml. For drier, reduce orgeat to 7-8ml and/or increase lime to 20ml. The drink should balance herbal intensity with tropical sweetness.

Yes! Multiply all ingredients by the number of servings, chill the batch, then swizzle individual portions (about 135-140ml each) over crushed ice to control dilution and texture.

Use full-fat canned coconut milk for the best texture and richness. Avoid coconut water or light coconut milk as they won’t provide the necessary creaminess and body this drink requires.

Cocktail Difficulty Levels

We’ve added a difficulty rating to every cocktail so you’ll know what to expect before you start mixing. It’s not about being “hard” or “easy” in the strict sense—it’s about how much preparation, skill, and hunting for ingredients you’ll need.

  • Beginner – Quick builds or simple shakes with common ingredients you’ll likely already have at home. Perfect for beginners or a casual evening.

  • Intermediate – A bit more technique (stirring, shaking, muddling, layering) and a few extra ingredients. You might need to buy one or two bottles or garnishes you don’t already stock.

  • Advanced – Multiple steps, specialty techniques (infusions, syrups, foams), or rare ingredients. These drinks take more effort and planning, but reward you with something truly impressive.

The rating is based on things like the number of ingredients, how rare they are, and the skills needed to bring the cocktail together.
