This low-alcohol cocktail delivers crisp, effervescent satisfaction with the perfect balance of malty beer character and bright citrus zing. Dating back to early 20th century Bavaria, it remains the ideal drink for warm weather and outdoor activities.

Tips & Notes

  • Temperature is crucial - warm ingredients will flatten the carbonation and create excessive foam.

  • Pour beer first, then lemonade to settle the foam and create better integration.

  • Use sparkling lemonade rather than still for authentic effervescence and traditional character.

  • Adjust ratio to taste: 60:40 beer-heavy for more malt character, or 40:60 for sweeter refreshment.

  • For batch serving, mix gently just before serving - avoid pre-mixing long-term as carbonation will fade.

Light, crisp beers work best – Munich Helles, pilsner, or light lager are ideal. Avoid heavy, dark, or hoppy beers as they overwhelm the delicate balance with lemonade.

No, traditionally Radlers are served without ice. Ice dilutes the flavors and can make the drink watery. Instead, ensure all ingredients are well-chilled before mixing.

Radlers are Bavarian and traditionally use lager with sparkling lemon soda, while Shandys are British and often use ale with lemonade or ginger beer. Both follow similar 1:1 ratios but have different flavor profiles.

Mix 120ml fresh lemon juice, 120ml simple syrup, 240ml water, and 120ml sparkling water. Stir until dissolved and chill thoroughly before using.

Cocktail Difficulty Levels

We’ve added a difficulty rating to every cocktail so you’ll know what to expect before you start mixing. It’s not about being “hard” or “easy” in the strict sense—it’s about how much preparation, skill, and hunting for ingredients you’ll need.

  • Beginner – Quick builds or simple shakes with common ingredients you’ll likely already have at home. Perfect for beginners or a casual evening.

  • Intermediate – A bit more technique (stirring, shaking, muddling, layering) and a few extra ingredients. You might need to buy one or two bottles or garnishes you don’t already stock.

  • Advanced – Multiple steps, specialty techniques (infusions, syrups, foams), or rare ingredients. These drinks take more effort and planning, but reward you with something truly impressive.

The rating is based on things like the number of ingredients, how rare they are, and the skills needed to bring the cocktail together.
